Keeping Order

One of my more recent blog reads, The Happiness Project, shared a random list of how to “keep order” at home. I like that it’s random, and personal to the author. I have my own “randoms”, and here’s a sampling.

  • Instead of “never buy souvenirs” when traveling, we purchase a Christmas ornament for the tree to remind us of our travels, or keep track of the food we eat so we can recreate a special dinner from a place we’ve visited.
  • Invite friends over weekly - it’s great incentive for creating a speed-cleaning routine (I’ll share ours tomorrow).
  • Purge items from the house regularly - at least quarterly would be my suggestion. Changes in season, like “putting away Christmas” is a great time to sort through and purge. For us, expecting a baby has helped us clean out unused or unwanted items, out of necessity to make room!
  • Communicate with the family weekly - what needs to be accomplished? How will you keep the schedule from being overloaded?

How do you keep order?
